Marathon Monday: Milky Way 26K

Going into the 4th month of my #12monthsof13.1 challenge, I decided to go with the Martian Invasion of Races Half Marathon. However, based on my marathon training plan, I needed to get an 18 mile run in that weekend. Thus, I took a leap and signed up for the Milky Way 26K. Running the Milky Way 26K meant that I would run in the 5K race, then, when I cross the finish line for the 5K, I instantly get back the starting corral and run a half marathon. I never completed a racing challenge before, so I was anxious about what to expect. It is one thing to run 16 miles training, but I had no idea how to pace for a half marathon after running a 5K. Would I be tired? Would I even be able to finish? It would be an experience that is for sure. Marathon Monday: Muddog Half

The third installation of the Winter Warrior Series was on the 11th of March. For the first time, I managed to convince G to drive up and watch the race with me so I was overly excited. It was nice having the first two as a “mini-getaway” for me; but since I turned 24 on the 9th, I told him all I wanted for my birthday was him to see one of my half marathons. Thus, hungover and tired from the celebration the night before, we began our journey up to CMU Saturday evening. We arrived at O’Kelly’s Sports Bar right at the end of packet pickup. G waited in the car while I ran in to grab everything I needed. This time, for the final race of the series, we received rather nice Jerzee sweatshirt along with our Muddog pint glass. Marathon Monday: Icecube Half

The second installation of the Winter Warrior Series was on the 18th of February. I was looking forward to it as the weekend before I completely slacked off of my training. Most of this had to do with the fact that I was supposed to go on vacation to San Antonio; but instead, Michigan ended up with 14inches of snow and I was able to cancel my flight since I couldn’t even drive safely to the airport (I was able to get a full refund #ThankYouDelta). Now that the snow was almost completely melted, it appeared to be another great weekend for a half marathon. Once again, the forecast was calling for 40 degree and sunny weather. I do not know how we got so lucky to have two amazing weather days in January/February but I was not complaining. This time, I was driving up to CMU with one goal in mind, to finally get a new PR. Marathon Monday: Snowmans Half

After my first Marathon, I was so sore I had zero motivation to run (at all). Then, winter came in full force and I decided that I was only going to be a fair-weather runner. I couldn’t stand running on a treadmill and with it getting dark around 4:30pm I hardly there was hardly any time to safely run before or after work. I continued my yoga and lifting routine; but, when I finally started running again in April, I realized how out of shape I became. Coming out of the WDW Marathon, I knew I was not going to let myself go back to square one again. Thus, I already signed up for my next marathon and three half marathons before I even ran at Disney. The half marathons I signed up for were a part of the Winter Warrior series – the Snowmans, Ice Cube, and Mud-dog.
